There are many different aspects and points of view on why it is good to practice tango...if you are a student learning you want to know more and explore! As a performer and choreographer it is important to be able to practice to reach synchronization between the music and choreography. As a teacher you want to make sure you have the fundamental basics to be able to explain in detail what the step or sequence is, although we who love the connection in tango realize it's more than just a step and that goes for all aspects, student, teacher, performer, etc. This is one of the reasons we decided to host a weekly practica (practice) where space has been created for tangueros and tangueras alike that can come enjoy with encouragement from teachers and peers alike, to explore and practice. Providing a space where discussion is allowed, where open role is encouraged and any person of any level can have a community event where it is allowed to express yourself, is highly important not only to the dancer but to the growth of the community as a whole. We started this practica back in August with every other week featuring an orchestra night to get more in depth exploration and it has grown immensely in many ways. We have had visitors from out of town, from surrounding communities that will drive hours and full classes where we have had to establish different lanes in the pista....but the best part of this is to see how everyone in this space encourages and embraces each other with no expectations but with love. If you haven't had the chance to join us, please do! You will be welcomed with open arms and warm embraces
This was a year of inspiration....when we formed this new partnership we had no idea how many wonderful things would come our way. We started out meeting up at Tuscon Tango Festival earlier this year and came to find out we had that instant connection....a connection so deep that we danced 9 hours straight! After we decided to form this new partnership, we were inspired in every way. We began in May teaching our first classes and had our first performance in Seattle, WA at Century Ballroom. From there we participated in NOLA Tango Festival and have been establishing classes, practicas and milongas in the beautiful city of New Orleans. In between activities we have traveled to California for Burning Tango Festival and Dallas, TX for various events including Shades of Tango by Evolution Tango, Ben de La Vega's Black and White Ball and also A Night Among the Stars in Tyler, TX.
